Resistance and Aid and Rescue
Although some women were persecuted by Nazi Germany, others banned together to help stop the Holocaust. Women who belonged to other political parties, such as the Socialists and Communists, were known to bring secret information about the Nazi plans to the ghettos. Because of this selfless act, the people in the ghettos would be prepared for a Nazi attack on their home. Some women during the time of the Holocaust helped those in the ghettos to protect themselves from the German officials. Women were also known to hand out anti-Nazi fliers and pamphlets to the public stating how inhumane the forms of punishment to the people were. In the concentration camps, women would help the resistance by arming any of the persecuted people with weapons to use against the Germans.
Women aided the resistance by engaging in the rescue of many people located in the concentration camps. For example, Gisi Fleischmenn and Hannah Szenes parachuted into the parts of Europe controlled by Germany to help the people to escape. |
